Welcome to Waycross!

Legend says that Waycross was named by a railroad traveler because this is “where the ways crossed.” The restored Historic Passenger Rail Depot is an ideal place to see trains lumbering through town, but railfans will also want to get a glimpse of Rice Yard, the largest of nine classification yards on the CSX Transportation Railroad network. In addition to the railroad, Waycross is at the north entrance to the Okefenokee Swamp.
